What is Breath-work?

Breath-work, the modern term for spiritual breathing, is the "art and science" of applying breath awareness exercises and conscious breathing techniques as a medium for an all-round balance in body, mind and spirit.

Guided breath-work is the crème de la crème among methods and practices of self-development, with immediate and permanent benefits on all aspects of our existence. With just a few days of practice, breath-work initiates realize that their newly learnt breathing techniques are a source of inspiration and the key to two seemingly opposite states of mind - peace and power. Long term practitioners, on the other hand, demonstrate how that peace and power can be harnessed to lead a life of equanimity and willful manifestation.

Our breathing is solely responsible for our capacity to think and be creative. The more conscious we are about our breathing (through breath-work), the more profound our thinking and the more creative we become. Breathing also discloses the condition of our health - shallow breathers have sallow complexions and low stamina (physical and mental). Breath-work practitioners, on the other hand, are full of zip and verve.

The energy generated by breath-work practitioners can be directed towards thoughts and action worthy and expected of a leader, resulting in qualities like integrity, attitude of gratitude, service-orientation, and from-the-heart communication. Relationships are better nurtured and conflicts are rare, if not non-existent.

Based on his own experience, one seasoned breath-work practitioner has this to say, "Breath-work helps you clear your head, calm your nerves, settle your stomach, open your heart, warm you up or cool you off, wake you up or soothe you down. What’s more, breath-work can arouse sexual passion or heal sexual abuse." All the above benefits are nothing compared to the ability to connect with the sub-conscious and, through meditation, enter sublime mental states.

To sum up, it’s no exaggeration to say that breath-work can enhance anything about you and empower you to practically do anything you desire to do!

The great Osho wrote many years ago, "If you can do something with breath, you will attain the source of life. If you can do something with breath, you can transcend time and space. If you can do something with breath, you will be in the world and also beyond it." He added: "there are certain points in the breathing which you have never observed, and those points are the doors, the nearest doors to you, from where you can enter into a different world, into a different being, a different consciousness..."
